If I may I would like to share a few of my very special memories dating back to 1973/74.
Ted & Phyllis welcomed me into their home when I arrived in the UK in February 1973. It was an amazing gesture as they already had a full house. Nanna was living with them too.
One only fully appreciates the enormity of this gesture as one gets older. I was made to feel at home immediately. That is who they were as a couple.
Ted took a day off work once the weather improved somewhat & announced he was taking Suzanne & I to see some sights. The amazing Beachy Head walk sticks in my mind like it was yesterday. Walking down loads of stairs & the beautiful cliffs on either side & then walking up again.
I was introduced to pub life which I found I rather enjoyed. Favourite family pubs as I remember were the Charcoal Burner in Crawley & Hunter’s Moon in Copthorne.
My 21st Birthday was held at the Hunters Moon. Ted & Phyllis arranged the party for me & gave me a large “key to the door” & jewellery box which I treasure to this day.
When I married Mike in 1974 Ted gave me away, standing in for my Dad .... walking me down the aisle.....actually running me down the aisle. It was a chilly, windy day .... so not sure if he was trying to warm us up or making sure I got married.
I have many, many happy, amazing memories of those two years for which I thank Ted & Phyllis for. I will treasure them forever. xx
